From developer Blitz Games and NAMCO Bandai, Powerup Forever is an old-school top down shooter that hearkens back to games like Geometry Wars in gameplay and in control schemes. Taking a simple concept and running with it, the game is easy to play, but grows pretty intense as hordes of enemies take to the screen. Powerup Forever is a fast, fun, and visceral shooter that fans of classic shooters will enjoy.

The gameplay in Powerup Forever controls the same as Geometry Wars. You move your ship around with the left analog thumbstick and shoot by pointing the right thumbstick in a direction. You can also set off smart bombs with the right trigger, but nothing here is terribly complicated stuff.

You spend the game shooting down various enemies who have the potential of turning larger, more difficult ones if you let them. After shooting enough enemies, you’ll be attacked by bosses, known as Guardians. Each of the Guardians has a different ability, and by killing them, you’ll gain their power. These range from twin shots to lasers and shields, which grow stronger when you kill tougher enemies.

Graphically, the game bears a resemblance to Geometry Wars, complete with the light diffraction trail effects, and bright, flashy lighting effects. While the ship and enemy models are a bit more detailed, the effect is similar to that of Geometry Wars.

While no pricing details were available, Powerup Forever is slated to launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade and Playstation Network this fall.
