Deer Hunter Tournament Preview
E3 2008 Preview
In the pool of niche gaming genres, Deer Hunter was once a cash cow. It wasn't sold to the hardcore gamer crowd, and it didn't need to be: publishers discovered that there were enough enthusiastic hunters out there to make a game like Deer Hunter a colossal success. Deer Hunter Tournament, the latest iteration, could expand its market by coming to the current console leader: Xbox 360. Let's take a look at what the game has to offer.
-
9 levels on Xbox 360.
-
10 levels on PC (one is a Wal-Mart exclusive).
-
9 different weapons.
-
Several scope attachments.
-
Animals of all ages, shapes and sizes. You won't just see adults and babies, you'll see animals at several stages of development.
The weapon lineup ranges from a Compound Bow, Crossbow and Recurve Bow to a Lever Action and Autoloader Shotgun. The scope attachments will obviously influence your ability to shoot from a distance. In its current E3 form, the game didn't demonstrate any graphical features beyond the older titles in the series. The shoot-and-zoom camera is still a part of the experience, bringing you closer to your animal after shooting it in the back (or anywhere else on its body).
That was it for Atari's Deer Hunter Tournament presentation. But with the fall release approaching fast, we should learn more about the game in the coming months. Stay tuned.
